The Great Junction Dysfunction
Well I am now getting close to two months of job searching in Grand Junction. Here are my results…
Mesa State College – Student Advisor/Assistant to Testing: Passed up for a job I did half of for 2/5 years
Enstrom Candies – Customer Service: Denied for a full time position… But I could go back for a seasonal job like what I did last year.
Colorado West Mental Health – Technical Trainer: They will be using “power users” for training until further notice
AT&T – Sales: Denied
Officemax – Customer Service: No response… Although rumors say they aren’t doing much business.
Random Oil Company X – Human Resources: No response
The list continues with a good bit of repetition.
The problem is that I either don’t have the 2-5 years of experience most companies would like as a minimum here, or in the case of the crap level jobs I have too much education and they never respond to anything I try with them. There are certainly some very low level jobs I could get with no problem, however, I am really looking to get paid more than $10/hr, I was making about $16/hour in Japan after taxes and most expenses.
Thus it looks like I will retire from GJ. They have finally worn me down. I need a community that supports and likes the fact that you have a degree and doesn’t disregard you out-of-hand if you lack management level experience. So it looks like in the near future I will be leaving to see what I can make of myself in Boston.
My buddy Ty is already out there and his girlfriend Josie left yesterday. They have offered me a guest room while I get on my feet, so I’m gonna take it and go someplace new… again… I enjoy moving apparently.
Josie has some business to finalize in GJ in September, so I should be heading out with her on the way back out.
