Learn about Blego
I just found a new internet/blogging term that I think is both funny and interesting.
Blego
Blego stands for Blog Ego - I got this little gem from an Entrecard forum post by Ruby (aka Evil Woobie). I think we all know some bloggers who have some serious Blego issues. However, I believe there are, as with many things in life, two side to the blego coin.
The good side are those people who have a serious want to help you out. A big ego might always be a bit like a hammer, but positive blego is the hammer a sculptor who is using it with a chisel to create art. Most of the blogs that actually make it to my subscriptions “suffer” from positive blego.
The bad side are those that just really want to make money because money ought to make things better for them. They wield their enormous ego more like a maul in medieval combat. It might be useful for one army (blogger) but it probably wreaks more havoc than it builds in good vibes down the road. These also seem to stem from some extreme need to be just like ProBlogger or John Chow.
I would like to think that at the moment this blog has very little Blego of either type. This is my personal site and although I would like it to be popular with all the cool kids, I really just have it for me. However, on the same note, I do have sites I would like to start growing positive blego with!
Where do you think my Blego stands?
Do you know any great example of good or bad blego?

Mmm, “Blego” my first time hearing that. I will have to ponder on it and get back to you!LOL

I’ve never heard of “blego” before now, either - but it’s good to know that, if I’m suffering from blego, at least it is the positive kind!
Keep up the great work!

@ Natalie - Please do ponder it! I haven’t had much time to judge many blogs against this new catch-phrase.
@ Caleb - I think you are indeed suffering from positive blego. There are few things more positive than trying to make the environment a little better for everyone!

Wow, interesting post…I’ve never thought of blogs having “egos,” but that makes perfect sense. I also like your analysis of “positive” blego and “negative” blego. Great read!
