The Fox Returns!

Today is the big day for Firefox 3! That’s right, go ahead and download the new version of what has perhaps become the best web browser.
That said, I really do believe that Firefox is a great browser. However, I have not tried many of the new “social browsers” that have come about. Also, despite being a great browser it does have problems. I’m sure every happy fox user knows well how true the picture above is.
Although while on the browser topic… It is interesting how these things have evolved. I remember the AOL proprietary browser that was a bit like trying to navigate the internet with safety wheels, in the dark, with the same great user support they have always offered. I also remember how fast my family abandoned the AOL browser for the original Netscape Navigator, the best browser of its internet era.
After that Internet Explorer really was the next big thing. I know I used IE for quite some time while Netscape began its descent into madness, but I don’t remember much about it. It seems like it quietly came into being rather than leaping onto the scene as a major change.
Now the flag is in the fox court. What will be interesting to see is if any real competitor to the “default browser” will appear in the form of an entirely new browser or if things will continue to be battled over by the heavyweight contenders Mozilla, IE, Opera, and Safari (yes you can probably list more then me… these are the keys ones that come to my mind).
Either way, I’ll be doing the next gen fox thing. Lets just hope we get some more great Snow Crash moments out of it.
